Apologize

Let's just be honest
This isn't going anywhere
Let's get this over with
Let's just get it over with
If you're going to leave,
well make it quick
I don't have time to say goodbye
if you don't have time to stick around

I'm sorry
I didn't see things your way
but I won't apologize
for things I'll never say
I'm so sorry
but you had your turn
I won't apologize
for one more lesson learned

I know what you're waiting for
but don't expect that from me
I'm not one for groveling
so don't expect to find me on my knees
Well so what if I'm a little different
that doesn't make me a bad person
If you really liked what you saw in me
you wouldn't ask me to be someone I don't want to be

I'm sorry
I didn't see things your way
but I won't apologize
for things I'll never say
I'm so sorry
but you had your turn
I won't apologize
for one more lesson learned

Call me a contradiction
Call me an abomination
Call me anything you want
but don't call me on the phone
when you've had your bad luck
and expect me to turn it around
I know you're expecting an apology
but you won't get one from me

I'm sorry
I didn't see things your way
but I won't apologize
for things I'll never say
I'm so sorry
but you had your turn
I won't apologize
for one more lesson learned

I'm sorry
but I won't apologize

Acceptance

I've gone over this a hundred times
but none of the words sound right
It's so easy to put the blame on you
when I know none of this was true
I won't give up my stubborn ways
and I certainly won't forget those days
but I can admit when I'm wrong
and I've been wrong for so long
Please accept this letter from me
inside you'll find my apology

There are so many ways to say what I want to say
but I can't seem to say it the right way
I want to make you understand
but I can't live through that again
There's a reason I act the way I do
and why I said the things I said to you
But let's put an end to this rivalry
and write a new you and me
I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry
Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?

Before I get ahead of myself
I'm not saying I didn't have every right to get upset
You lied about the stupidest things
and you did it right in front of me
But I'm so sick of holding this stupid grudge
when you were open with me from the start
I never meant to drag you into my misery
when you and I were never anything

There are so many ways to say what I want to say
but I can't seem to say it the right way
I want to make you understand
but I can't live through that again
There's a reason I act the way I do
and why I said the things I said to you
But let's put an end to this rivalry
and write a new you and me
I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry
Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?

I wish you could see this from my point of view
and see all the things I've been through
I put up these walls that no one could break down
because I couldn't bear to let go
I've done so many people wrong
because of those who wronged me before
Please accept this letter from me
inside you'll find my apology

There are so many ways to say what I want to say
but I can't seem to say it the right way
I want to make you understand
but I can't live through that again
There's a reason I act the way I do
and I said the things I said to you
But let's put an end to this rivalry
and write a new you and me
I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry
Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?

Justify

They criticize and try to justify
All those times they made you cry
They push, they pull, they keep on pushing
Until you feel like giving in
And when you feel like this road
Just keeps right on going
Don't dare to turn around, stay in the fight
and don't let them see the fear in your eyes

It's about time you got what you deserve
And it's about time you see a better world
I hate to see you give up so easily
When you're not even halfway to where you could be
I wish you'd keep reaching for the stars
Instead of falling quickly behind
You've got so much to live for, so much to give for
And I won't stand around to watch you give it up

I know it feels like you've got no one there to back you up
And you think you're always falling short
But you're just as bright as any other star
And I'll always be here to catch you if you fall
I know you're afraid the world will let you down
and leave you lying broken on the ground
But you've got nothing to be scared of
let them love you for who you really are

It's about time you got what you deserve
And it's about time you see a better world
I hate to see you give up so easily
When you're not even halfway to where you could be
I wish you'd keep reaching for the stars
Instead of falling quickly behind
You've got so much to live for, so much to give for
And I won't stand around to watch you give it up

You want to see your name in lights
Don't let them take it without a fight
I know deep down how bad you want this
And you've got to stop resisting it
When you start down that road, don't ever look back
They'll break you apart if you give them the chance
Don't be afraid to stand your tallest
and stand out among the fallen

It's about time you got what you deserve
And it's about time you see a better world
I hate to see you give up so easily
When you're not even halfway to where you could be
I wish you'd keep reaching for the stars
Instead of falling quickly behind
You've got so much to live for, so much to give for
And I won't stand around to watch you give it up

Holly

I spent four long years under your control
Every rumor you spread dragged me farther below
You always overstepped the line
between telling a joke and starting a fight
I never called you out on any of this
Better late than never, so here it is
I'd love to say it's nothing personal
but I'd hate to sound so well rehearsed

Holly, Holly
You don't know one goddamn thing about me
Holly, Holly
I remember when you used to ask me
Why climb for something you'll never reach
You know you'll never make it
so what's the point in dreaming?
It's about time you learned the truth
You never liked me, I never liked you
But Holly, Holly, who would have thought
Who would have thought that I'd be so much better than you

I don't care what you say anymore
because honestly, it's getting old
By now you should be over it
but you're the same as you were back then
You've got a quick tongue and a bitter heart
but I never let you see me fall apart
I'd love to say it's nothing personal
but I'd hate to sound so well rehearsed

Holly, Holly
You don't know one goddamn thing about me
Holly, Holly
I remember when you used to ask me
Why climb for something you'll never reach
You know you'll never make it
so what's the point in dreaming?
It's about time you learned the truth
You never liked me, I never liked you
But Holly, Holly, who would have thought

Who would have thought that I'd be so much better than you

I don't really expect an apology
and it's the last thing I'll ever need
While you always took pleasure in pushing me down
I set out to prove you wrong
I may not be the same girl
but I'd be happy to show you my new world
If it's one thing I couldn't deal with
it was people waiting for me to fail

Holly, Holly
I guess you really didn't know me
Holly, Holly
I'm so much more than you thought I would be
Now when people ask me
Why climb so far for a dream
I just look them in the eye
and I give a reminiscent smile
I'm reminded of you,
I had something to prove
I did anything to make it come true

Go

It was a Saturday night when Lily met Jake
on a little bridge looking over the lake
There was a gleam on his eye and she couldn't deny
The smile on his face gave her butterflies
He put his hand around her waist
said this will always be our place
and he whispered in her ear
the words she'd been longing to hear

Let's go baby go
Run as fast you can
Baby don't let go
We'll go baby go
Just hold my hand
Baby don't let go
No matter which road
There's no looking back
because I love you so

Two years later in the city park
Lily can barely see, it's getting dark
Even Jake's cold hand in hers
can't seem to calm her nerves
and when he got down on one knee
and said Lily baby marry me
She didn't even have to hesitate
She knew in her heart the only words to say

Let's go baby go
Run as fast as you can
Baby don't let go
We'll go baby go
Just hold my hand
Baby don't let go
No matter which road
There's no looking back
because I love you so

It was a Saturday night when Lily met Jake
on a little bridge looking over the lake
She was a vision in white and he couldn't deny
The smile on her face gave him butterflies
He put his hand around her waist
said this will always be our place
Dancing under the stars and the moonlight
Jake looked down at his beautiful wife and he said

Let's go baby go
Run as fast as you can
Baby don't let go
We'll go baby go
Just hold my hand
Baby don't let go

Let's go baby go
Run as fast as you can
Baby don't let go
We'll go baby go
Just hold my hand
Baby don't let go
No matter which road
There's no looking back
because I love you so

Try

Remember when somebody told you
you can be anything you want to be
Every word they said is true
and it's up to you to make it a reality
I know it seems like you're standing still
when you'd rather be moving here and there
If you want this more than anything
Stop looking in the palm of your hand

You gotta try and you try
and you try one more time
until you've almost given up hope
But you try and you try
and you get it the last time
when you reach what you're climbing for

Mama only wants her boy to be happy
and Bobby's got his eye on Harvard
and when he got to be eighteen
Mama told him life was gonna be hard
but when you set your eyes on your dream
you don't ever look back on this one-horse town
You stay strong and you keep right on fighting
Don't you let them bring you down

You gotta try and you try
and you try one more time
until you've almost given up hope
But you try and you try
and you get it the last time
when you reach what you're climbing for

Hang on for dear life
so nothing slips away
Know that nothing is too high
and nothing is too far away

When I was learning to ride a bike
I relied on Daddy holding on behind me
I was so scared the first time
when he took off the training wheels
We started picking up speed and when I wasn't nervous
I felt him let go of the seat
When I fell the first time, he ran to pick me up
He kissed my knee and wiped away my tears

He said you gotta try and you try
and you try one more time
until you've almost given up hope
But you try and you try
and you get it the last time
when you reach what you're climbing for

That's Not Good Enough

I don't know who told you this
but I am not your therapist
This isn't supposed to be a one-sided conversation
You wouldn't understand my frustrations
Everything revolves around your perfect world
and your perfect world shows how shallow you are
As your friend, I feel I should tell you
the way you act from a different point of view

You're a selfish little girl, you've got your eye on the prize
You've got a sneer on your face, and your nose in the sky
I bet you're think you're perfect
but I know that you're not worth it
You think you're pretty, but you're ugly to me
I wanna open your eyes to what everyone else sees
Watch while I call your bluff
I'd rather be me, even if that's not good enough

Have you listened to the things you say?
They sound so dumb, but you say them anyway
I'm not in the mood for playing nice
and I don't really care if you think you're right
You can't keep pushing me around
so stop acting so damn proud
I've got nothing left in me
Nothing left to escape this rivalry

You're a selfish little girl, you've got your eye on the prize
You've got a sneer on your face, and your nose in the sky
I bet you think you're perfect
but I know that you're not worth it
You think you're pretty, but you're ugly to me
I wanna open your eyes to what everyone else sees
Watch while I call your bluff
I'd rather be me, even if that's not good enough

You've got fast cars and expensive pearls
You're nothing more than a spoiled little rich girl
Tell me I'm wrong, tell me I'm lying
Tell me that I've crossed the line
You're feeling unstoppable, invincible
just tell me if it was worth selling out
Dry those eyes, your tears won't do you any good here
Don't come crying call I'll give you no sympathy

You're a selfish little girl, you've got your eye on the prize
You've got a sneer on your face, and your nose in the sky
I bet you think you're perfect
but I know that you're not worth it
You think you're pretty but you're ugly to me
I wanna open your eyes to what everyone else sees
Watch while I call your bluff
I'd rather be me even if that's not good enough
